A Special New Friend

Look who just hopped into the classroom!

I am excited to announce a new addition to the classroom. We have a new baby rabbit named Walter! Walter and I are excited about his role as our classroom pet and mascot. I am excited to surprise the children on Monday. We will have an unveiling of Walter's cage and have carrots and apples for snack, because those are two of Walters favorite things. We will also read several non-fiction and fiction books about rabbits this week.

One of the reasons I decided to get a pet for our class was so the children could help take responsibility and learn to feed and give Walter water. The children will also be allowed to take Walter home for a weekend several times this year. If you cannot host Walter in your home, please contact me so I can make sure to give your child extra time with Walter during the week he or she would be taking walter home.

Thank you for sharing the excitement with me. I have no doubt Walter will be a big hit with the class and will add a lot to the classroom.

Go Gold in September!

GO GOLD FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER               AWARENESS MONTH!

Here is a great video to help parents understand more about childhood cancer. I will not be sharing this video with the class. However, I would appreciate you all watching it.

September is national childhood cancer awareness month. I feel like our class should celebrate and advocate for children like themselves who are sick with cancer.

My freshman year of high school my parents had a baby boy. My sweet brother, Preston! when he was two months old he was diagnosed with stage four Neroblastoma. After battling for months. Going though chemotherapy, and having multiple surgeries my brother passed away at home with our family. Although our hearts will never heal, I believe that being an advocate for childhood cancer awareness and sharing my families experience with childhood cancer helps.

Throughout the month of September the entire school will be raising money for research for childhood cancer. Our class will be collecting loose change from home and family members, neighbors, churches, ect. They have each decorated a milk jug to fill with coins throughout this month.

On Friday, September 26th the school will be having a "Go Gold Day". where we will participate in activities to raise awareness as a school. Please encourage and help your child to dress festively. Our class will be having a "Go Gold Party" after lunch in addition to the full school activities. We will be decorating cookies with gold icing and sprinkles, drawing pictures for the children's hospital, and we will read the book Riley Socks, a book by Leahanne Allen. It is about a girl who wins the battle against cancer!

Thank you for your participation and your help to go gold for childhood cancer awareness!
